Nancy,

Thank you so very much for filling in many of the gaps in my SEO knowledge. Some of the things I was doing were actually hurting my ranking! Thanks to your SEO training videos, I’m now back on track and can’t wait to see where this takes my new and older websites.

Hahahahaha Good! (Although you’ll want to do that more where you can get a link that’s not nofollow next time :-) )

Thanks Wes for your nice comments above.

Thank you so much for shedding light. I shall now focusing on power keywords just like you do!

Nancy,

Just one more question, should I add a blog to my e-commerce site or host it elsewhere? (Should I have a blog at all?)

My bad, 2 question but I guess it LSI :)

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the compliment! Focus on the big terms and all the long tail will come anyway.

If you liked this, wait until you see the video I’m working on right now that will be just as insightful about social media.

Nancy,
This page from the site was constantly up on page one or two of google for years for the search Western Furniture” last year it dropped to 6th page and now its back further. You have any ideas off the top of your head (some change in keywords and some added text on the page changed, not much else)

Hi JC (?)

A common mistake is to think that what got a page ranked will continue to keep it there for years without any significant change. That works if there isn’t some parameter on your page that is now isn’t compliant with Google’s preferred practices. I took a quick peek. The only links to that page (they may have been now removed) that Yahoo reports are from a blog that you appear to own which is not on topic. And the keyword meta tag is spamming the search engines.

I’m a believer in small steps in a situation like this to see what Google will respond to. I’d start by reducing the use of the phrase western furniture in your keywords a bit, wait a few days and see how Google responds. Now you don’t have much on page content. Adding a little more with a couple links, preferably in content related to the theme will help significantly.

Hi,

It was a momentary blip, Youtube does that once in awhile when a lot of people are viewing our videos. I apologize for the inconvenience but do try back in a bit and you should have no problem.

Hi Anita,

They are all still up on Youtube. When we get a lot of folks viewing them all at once, that message can get displayed by YouTube. I just went out and checked them all and they all played for me. I apologize for any inconvenience but I’m sure if you stop by again you’ll be able to view them.

Hi Nancy-

Just heard about your great contribution to those who are new or have been misguided from J.H. I’m the one J.H. told you about at Yanik’s conference this weekend (SN and __). My question relates to: I set up a separate blog on Google blogger. I have links to the blog from my main site and back. Main site is an ecommerce site and I have four blogs on it already. I was on page 2 on google organic for my main keyword and after I set up the new blog with the links I noticed I lost my page 2 position. I’m concerned what has caused this change. I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

Hi Gail,

I was traveling back to my home in Omaha, NE yesterday so I just saw your question - thank you for your nice comments. With regard to your question, setting up an off-site blog and linking to it should not be a problem. However, it’s not the best set up for your site to have a followable link pointing to it. Since I see you use nofollow links on your site, make that one (the link to the blogspot site) no follow.

Google has been very volatile lately. I’m can’t tell which term you were trying to rank for but you need to watch the weighting of the anchor text in the links pointing to your site. Don’t over do it. Use similar words or your site name to water down the concentration of those words in links pointing to your site.

This is one area that many people make a mistake with and why you should not listen to any ‘guru’ that says you should reverse engineer your site to match the sites ranking top for your search phrase. You see Google tends to ‘grandfather’ older sites and they can have the keyword density in their anchor text far higher than what a newer site can use and get away with.

Hope this helps!

Hi Nancy,

We run a site (www.discoverbrazil.com) that has nº 1 and 2 positions in Google for some competitive keywords and now we are working in others. When you’ve mentioned about suplementary index how can we see if we are there? Do you use any kind of software? By the way, do you recomend any (like SEO Elite, ABP??)
Regards from Brazil!

Hi Daniela,

Since I did Yanik’s UG3, Google has made it very hard to find which pages are supplemental. The removed the supplemental results label first and now the one command I used to use seems to be giving me bad data so they may have disabled it. What I can tell you is rather than focus too much on the supplemental index focus instead on how you can keep your pages fresh (little updates help a lot) and how you can build deep links to your site.

I use SEOelite quite a bit although I only use Projects 1 & 5. I don’t use it to find link partners I do quite a bit with link analysis with Project 1. We just put up a new video with Frank Kern talking to me about SEO and we have a free 90 page manual which is largely targeted to those starting out but has some good stuff even for the more experienced online entraprenuer. In there we give our full ‘tools of the trade’ - the services we use and recommend on everything from SEO to hosting companies.

Hello Nancy,
Great information! Thanks for presenting this information in a doable form.
I was a Stompernet member with dreams of grandeur, I wanted to start an eCommerce store and replace mine and my husbands income.
Only problem was I could barely set up an email acct.!!!
Stompernet is a great membership but it was too advanced for my skill level and learning pace. Very expensive lesson…..Oh well I now understand all the terms and processes. I realized it was too much too soon and all over the place. I wasn’t focused on what I should have been.
I’m looking forward to improving my site and learning from you
and trying to recoup some of my investment and creating a real online business.
Thanks for sharing your expertise with us.

Hi Julie,

All the UG videos are still up. At periods of very high activity (and we are getting a TON of traffic right now) you can get that message but they’ve not been removed, they are just not accessible at that moment. If you try a bit later you should be successful. I just went over and started two of them and had no problems.

Nancy,
I’m a beginner - love your style. Understood most of what you said but not all. You mentioned a 90 page manual and video with Frank Kern - where can I get that?

Second question: do you suggest blog as part of web site or stand alone?

thanks, Jean

Janice Wells

24. April 2008 at 02:04

Nancy,

I just finished viewing all the UG videos per your suggestion and I now know what I need to do with my chosen keyword phrase. I will post articles in strong article directories that you recommended. However, since I do not have an E-Commerce site (only affiliate marketing site), I cannot point to interior pages in the bio section, correct? It seems I only have a home page. I also will mix up my phrase in the anchor text when I get to that point with a similar meaning. How will I know if my chosen keyword phrase is the power phrase I want? Another tutorial I watched (not by you!) suggested using phrases that has less than 100,000 hits on Google.

Excellent, excellent videos and love the way you present this complicated information to be “uncomplicated” and easy to digest! I am going to join your member community!

Have Questions? I'd Love to answer them!
